COME AND EXPERIENCE LA DOLCE VITA IN OUR RIDICULOUSLY WONDERFUL
Italians simply love to celebrate, and here in the Sabina is definitely no exception. There are celebrations just about every week in the Sabina, honoring everything from the local olive oil and wine, and a wide assortment of locally grown foods, to beloved grandparents, and literally dozens of other things in between. Below are just a handful of the many dozens of events held throughout the Sabina every year.
Our town of Stimigliano holds a day to celebrate grandparents each year, along with numerous carnivals to celebrate the local deserts. The town of Poggio Mirteto holds two carnivals during the month of April, one of which is the 'Liberata, which celebrates the 1861 fall of the Papal States. The town of Selci holds an evening entitled 'Wine under the Stars' every year during the month of May, while the town of Configni, located just off the SP313, which runs from Passo Corese to the town of Terni near the northern Lazio border, holds a wild mushroom and asparagus festival during the same month. The town of Bocchignano, situated between Poggio Mirteto and Farfa Abbey, holds a jazz festival at the end of May or early June each year, while live music and al fresco food is served on Halloween in neighbouring Poggio Catino, where legend has it witches have been known to appear upon occasion and dance in the square.
RIETI: Events Rieti Danza Festival: born in 1991, it takes place every year in the Flavio Vespasiano theater ; it is divided into the classical, pas de deux, modern-contemporary and choreographic composition sections. Reate Festival: it is an international festival that ranges from bel canto to Jazz music through sacred music and more. It is held every year and the first edition dates back to 2009. To underline the depth of the event, the final concert of the 2010 multidisciplinary review, held in Rieti in Piazza Cesare Battisti, was broadcast by Rai International in Australia, South Africa, North America and South America. Rieticuorepiccante : The world pepper fair takes place in the summer in the city center.
Traditions and folklore In Rieti there are various manifestations linked to local traditions of more or less ancient origin: Preparation of the Infiorata di Sant'Antonio for the Procession of the Ceri The Procession of the Candles is the culmination of the celebrations in honor of St. Anthony of Padua known as June Antoniano , a saint for whom there is a very strong veneration. Every year on 12 June the statue of the saint is exhibited, celebrated with the Sant'Antonio Fair; two Sundays later the procession takes place, in which the statue (which with the wooden machine exceeds a ton in weight) runs through the streets of the historic center decorated with flowers and lights . The procession owes its name to the fact that the majority of the faithful carry large votive candles that remain lit for the entire duration of the procession, giving the observer a picturesque spectacle at nightfall. The Santa Barbara fair begins on December 3 (the so-called "appeared") and ends the following day to celebrate the day of Santa Barbara , patron saint of the city. In the past it took place through the streets of the historic center, while today it finds space along the streets of the Molino della Salce district. Although this move has deprived the fair of an aesthetically more precious background, the streets along which it winds are invaded every year by an intense crowd, in search of the most varied goods. At the same time in the area of Foro Boario, there is a market of livestock and equipment, as well as machines, for agricultural use. [ without source ] The 2008 edition of the Palio della Tinozza The Festa del Sole with the Palio della Tinozza is an event held at the end of July and consists of a series of water competitions in the Velino river and other side events; it has recent origins but is particularly loved by the people of Rieti, who watch it from the Roman bridge. The races include a duel, during which the competitors from the various districts try to make the opponent fall into the water by hitting him with a pole, a race of bicycles equipped with floats and shovels instead of wheels, a river boat race, a race swimming and the Palio della Tinozza, the most awaited competition, a competition where the competitors are seated inside a tub (a sort of "half tub") and push each other with an oar. are due to this traditiontwinning connected by the city of Rieti . The re-enactment of the Ribboned Horses, which takes place since 1980, is held on the first Sunday after January 17 and consists of the parade of knights in historical costume riding decorated horses, along a path that goes from Piazza Chiesa del Suffragio to the church of Sant 'Antonio Abate . The tradition recalled dates back to the beginning of the twentieth century, when the most widespread profession in the Porta D'Arci district was the carter and their blessing was held at the church of Sant'Antonio Abate, on the day of the anniversary of the patron saint of animals. The commemoration of the coronation of Charles II of Anjou , which took place in 1289 by the hand of Pope Nicholas IV in the cathedral of Rieti, is a parade in medieval costumes that has been held at the end of August every year since 1998 and takes place in the same places and with the same modalities reported in the description of Cardinal Giacomo Stefaneschi . It is preceded by the setting up of medieval themed spaces and games between the districts of the city (palio dell'anello, traglia race, tug-of-war and donkey race). The custom of the lights of the Ascension today has been almost completely lost, but once upon a time it was tradition to place a light outside the windows, on the occasion of the Feast of the Ascension of May 31, to indicate the way to the ascension of the Lord.
THEATRE: The interior of the Flavio Vespasiano theater The theatrical activity is concentrated at the Flavio Vespasiano Theater , built at the end of the nineteenth century and located along via Garibaldi (a few steps from Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II ). Sport Magnifying glass icon mgx2.svg The same topic in detail: Sport in Rieti . Rieti can boast a notable sporting tradition, especially in the fields of athletics and basketball , and has a fair number of sports facilities where events of international importance are held. The Raul Guidobaldi stadium of athletics A moment of the European juniors Rieti 2013 The city, in particular, is considered one of the Italian capitals of athletics , both for the considerable diffusion of this sport among the population and for the number of athletes of the national team who grew up in the local Andrea Milardi student club (over one hundred, including Pietro Mennea , Andrew Howe and Maria Benedicta Chigbolu ). The activity takes place at the Raul Guidobaldi stadium , which is often the venue for national and international events; among them the Rieti Meeting stands out (the second most important in Italy after the Golden Galaof Rome), in which numerous world records have been established, to the point that the city has been defined as a sort of " mecca " for records and the Guidobaldi nicknamed "temple of middle distance ". A basketball match at PalaSojourner The practice of basketball is also very rooted : the city was in fact home to AMG Sebastiani , a company that played for a long time in Serie A and was also European champion by winning a Korać Cup . His presence has also attracted important American players, including the beloved Willie Sojourner and Joe Bryant (father of Kobe Bryant , who for this reason spent his childhood in Rieti). The city is represented by the NPC Rieti ( Serie B ) and the Real Sebastiani Rieti ( Serie B ): both play their matches at thePalaSojourner . Less felt - but still relevant - is the football tradition: in the field of 11 -a-side football the city is represented by FC Rieti , which plays in Serie C playing at the Centro d'Italia-Manlio Scopigno stadium ; in 5-a-side football, on the other hand, Real Rieti , who played in the top flight and played at PalaMalfatti until the club went bankrupt. The Centro d'Italia-Scopigno football stadium A car competing in the Carotti cup Gliders at Rieti airport Rieti is also well known in the world of professional cycling , as the ascent to Mount Terminillo via the Via Terminillese represents a historic climb of Italian cycling; for this reason, Rieti or Terminillo have often been stage finishers of the Giro d'Italia (twenty times) and of the Tirreno-Adriatico (twice); the first time trial in the history of the Giro took place right on the Terminillo . The Rieti-Terminillo route is also famous in the automotive sector: every year the Bruno Carotti cup is held there , a competition of international importance which for a long time was part of theeuropean mountain championship . Relevant is also the activity in the field of gliding that takes place at Ciuffelli airport , facilitated by the particularly favorable updrafts present in the Piana Reatina : the city has in fact hosted two editions of the absolute world championships organized by the FAI , one junior world championship, and three editions of the European championships.
